QBs that cross the line of scrimmage should lose their protections. You wanna run, you take the risk. You wanna stay safe, remain behind the line.

Agreed. Maybe modify the slide rule that you are not protected until you are completely on the ground (e.g. at least one shoulder touching the turf). This would push QBs to slide much earlier.
