RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

showed my friends the Lord of the Rings for the first time, albeit a couple weeks ago. We watched fellowship of the ring and they really liked it, I think. I finished season two of squid game and really liked it. And this week I get to see Mulholland Drive in theaters so I am looking forward to that!

Pennyworth. Can't believe I never heard of this when it first came out. Am really enjoying it.

I binged Good Omens, which ended S2 so well, I popped over to tumblr for the fanart and was not disappointed

We watched Star Trek Section 31... Do not watch it. It's so bad. Possibly written by AI, because it not... Man. Should've looked at reviews first.

Finally finished Attack on Titan, which was the firat anime I watched since Bleach (stopped after they defeated Aizen). Anybody got other must watch ones? Before that I really like Samurai Champloo and Death Note.

Also watched Black Doves which was quite good.

For anime I'd really recommend parasyte. It's probably not as well known but it's a great story (and pretty short iirc)

I watched the last two episodes of Silo season 2. It's one of my favorite TV shows to date. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a new show to get into.

I might continue watching Star Trek in chronological order again. I left off in season 2 of Star Trek: Enterprise. It's a gigantic undertaking but I feel it's worth it for several reasons. The biggest is my love of speculative science, the optimistic perspective of the human race, the conflict resolutions that are used throughout, and storytelling.

Chronological to series? Or chronological to episode?

Fall Guy

This movie is so fun! I often like the behind-the-scenes of movies more than the actual movie, so this one is perfect. So many references to other movies, and many many meta jokes built around this being a movie about the making of a movie kept me highly entertained

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

So much King of the Hill. It's the perfect background show.

Flow. It's amazing how much emotion can be expressed through just movements. It's also one of the prettiest movies I've seen and that cat is super cute.

I really enjoyed Flow a lot more than I expected The soundtrack and plotting were evocative I just had a problem with the animation, the idea were great, the design was good, the animals all felt real, but it felt like it needed to be run through the renderer a couple more times Everything was bit flat and the lighting seemed a little off and it didn’t feel like that was the look they were going for, just that they didn’t have a big enough budget I’m looking forward to see what’s next from the production team though.

[–] MicrowavedTea@infosec.pub 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

The animation did feel a bit off at times but I didn't really mind. Let's hope they get a chance to do something with a bigger budget

Yeah it really like it It just need a bit of polishing in the hairs and such

Severance and Love is Blind Germany, oh and Silo.

[–] don@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago

Can definitely vouch for Severance and Silo, big fan.

[–] kraftpudding@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I watched the Avicii documentary in Netflix because someone recommended it to me. It was nice, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the person recommending it to me.

The Pope's Excorcist which I thought was brilliantly daft but my partner just found a chore to sit through. Of anyone who made or watches the film, Russell Crowe definitely had the most fun.

We are watching Fleabag (on Amazon Prime), a UK series telling the story of a young woman with a complicated family, experiencing ups and downs in her love and sexual life.

The main character is extremely funny, sarcastic and cynical. She regularly talks directly to the viewer out loud, looking a the camera, breaking the 4th wall, and that in the middle of conversations with other protagonists, it's a very refreshing take.

Donnie Brasco.

A really great movie.

I'm watching Tulsa King Season 2 now. It's kind of okay. Nothing special about it.

On one of my days off I had a nice triple bill of horror to watch.

The Substance, which was a very good body horror film. I fell in love with Margaret Qualley and Demi Moore (not literally but they were both amazing in it). I feel like the movie released with great timing as influencers are starting to push weight loss drugs such as Ozempic.

Heretic, which I found Hugh Grant to be terrifying and well spoken, as he played a strange and seemingly harmless (at first) man that has some pretty interesting insights into religion. I found the cat and mouse type environment to work well with the verbal riddles regarding religious hypocrisies. The third act could have been better but it was still a decent watch overall.

Finally, Alien Romulus, which was the best alien film since the first two, if they didn’t shoe horn the line “get away from her you… bitch” it may have been better than the second one also but, alas it was still a great watch. I particularly liked the character of Andy and the face hugger sections were the most intense scenes until the third and final act, where Mark Zuckerberg made a cameo.

[–] Peyroniehomie@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I could not eat my popcorn or drink my icee with all the body horror going on in The Substance. I don’t think I would watch it again.

[–] dicksteele@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

I also made the mistake of eating while watching The Substance.

[–] Katt@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

The Repair Shop show from the Uk. <3

[–] don@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Severance, Silo, The Night Agent, Dexter, The Recruit mainly

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 1 points 2 days ago

If that's the Dexter prequel, me too. I had some allergy to how that show ended, but this one's refreshingly good.

The intro though was a trip to nostalgiavile.

Started a rewatch of Am I Being Unreasonable, as the new series is out soon
