I don't care who is to blame, I'm just glad the carbon garbage industry is dying.

Blame? Sounds like it might be a good thing?

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 37 points 10 months ago

It absolutely is a good thing, natural diamond industry is largely based on slave labor and it destroys the environment. There is absolutely no reason for it to exist when we can cheaply manufacture diamonds.

It's the usual framing of whatever China does as bad, regardless of what it is.

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 31 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Ok sweaty but it's not a real diamond unless it was made with cruelty

[–] tiredturtle@lemmy.ml 1 points 10 months ago

Some labor abuse can probably be arranged

Ffs they did this same thing with caviar farming didn't they? I swear I remember articles complaining about how farming caviar is bad because it makes it more accessible to the wider public instead of being a special rich person food

[–] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 10 months ago

Which is funny because caviar, like lobster, began as a shitty food for us poors until the rich gentrified it

Diamonds prices are falling. The horror, the dastardly Chinese...

[–] ToxicDivinity@hexbear.net 23 points 10 months ago

Diamonds are ~~plunging in value~~ cheaper than ever around the world. Is China ~~to blame?~~ the hero?

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 20 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Yeah, okay, good. Diamonds are a scam. Death to the diamond cartel.

In 5 years:

"Sure diamond is so cheap to make that we can now use it as a building material, but at what cost?"

Wow ok, being a millennial is a thankless job I guess. You're all welcome

[–] rando895@lemmygrad.ml 2 points 10 months ago

Right? It used to be millennials are ruining the restaurant industry, or the murdering children industry, but no. Now China is to blame... Thanks Obamna

Fuck the diamond cartel up the ass.

I bought an engagement ring many years back for around $2600 and when we broke up I went to a pawn shop and they offered $60 for the gold, the diamonds weren't worth a thing.

I cheer when these billion dollar scam industries get what they deserve I hope more are coming soon
