Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Summary

Trump has pledged the largest deportation operation in U.S. history, focusing on undocumented migrants with criminal histories.

However, an analysis reveals only 0.47% of the 1.8 million immigration court cases in the past year involved deportation orders for crimes beyond illegal entry.

While over 400,000 undocumented immigrants have past criminal convictions, most will not face deportation until after completing sentences.

Research consistently shows migrants commit crimes at lower rates than U.S.-born citizens and have no correlation with rising local crime rates, despite Trump’s claims of public safety threats.

The analysis doesn't take into account the fact that Trump has decided that they're all criminals.

Or that they consider anyone who they don't want here to be an illegal immigrant. Doesn't matter if there is a federal law that grants legal status to the people in question, or that the constitution grants citizenship to those who are born here, Trump and pals don't like those rules so they should be able to ignore them.

My brother has stated the act of illegally crossing the border makes you a criminal, therefore youre a felon. While in essence true, that line of thinking brings out the worst of what "conservatism" has, lack of empathy for others

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Not in essence true though. It's not a felony, it is a civil infraction, which is why it doesn't go through the regular criminal justice system.

Wrote it before, and I'm not the author, but: conservatives stop thinking if they like the current result.

Also they are all stark raving mad like the "late, great" Hannibal Lecter because he confuses asylum with insane asylum.

Surprised Pikachu face

Something Trump and co say is a huge problem actually isn't... I'm honestly shocked, shocked I tell you.

He's trying to employ one of them: Musk is an illegal immigrant accused of sexually assaulting women.

If you are the ones that make up the rules, then anyone can be a criminal.

We already jail or deport criminals.

Trump is just blowing his blow-horn with empty talk, and MAGA Americans think "He must really mean it, since he is shouting so loudly".
But he is insincere in everything, because he doesn't really give a shit about anything but himself.

HEY I WILL MAKE EVERYTHING TWICE AS GOOD! I HAVE A PLAN, BUT IT IS SECRET!!
And the voters bought it?!?!?

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Trump did a lot of things in his first term that he said he was going go do. We should be extremely concerned, and taking steps to fight this, not acting like his administration is going to be full of incompetence, and its no big deal.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Oh I have no doubt he will deport as many as he can, and not give a shit if they were born or grew up in USA, or if they've been there and worked hard and paid taxes for decades.
But in the end, his policies will do more harm than good, and he won't give a shit. He will still claim he is getting rid of criminals and is making things better.
He is a narcissist, and people who listen to him are idiots.
