Before anyone asks, I did this on BG3 so there was nobody there to "Are you sure you want to do that" my dumb ass.

I don't even need to multiclass. I constantly cast Hex after Hunger ✌️🥲

[-] Zoomboingding@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago

And even worse in Baldur's Gate 3 since you can cast both of those in the same turn.

I've cast Hunter's Mark and Ensnaring Strike in the same turn...

Would it make you feel better if I told you I hasted my friend who I was playing with 3 times in a row because I kept forgetting I cast haste, which would make him skip his turn every time? I am not a smart lady.

Cherry on top: the last time I cast it, and he was already thoroughly annoyed, I got hit and dropped concentration ^.^

[-] voidavoid@lemmy.ca 12 points 11 months ago

Tbf, that's just concentration. The sorlock bit had nothing to do with it

Though dropping Haste from two people crippling them both for a round (assuming Haste works the same in Baldur's Gate it does in tabletop) is a particularly bad time to lose Concentration

It does!

I once cast haste on myself, then quickened cast fly in the same turn.

Burned two 3rd level spells, sorc points, and burned two of my own turns in a bossfight lol.

I feel your pain. I’m constantly casting spirit guardians and then using my bonus action to cast shield of faith. Both require concentration.

The amount of dumb mistakes I make in it makes me angry.

Like I keep accidentally tanking with my Wizard

I don't quite understand why damage is so inconsistent

and why I have to do a long rest after every battle to cast more spells

and why I keep casting my AoE spells when my party members are near my target

and everything that isn't stone or metal burns

and I can't make friends with Shadowheart and the other clerics and I don't think her being a follower of Shar is necessarily a good.thing but it's better than a ithilid?

[-] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 11 months ago

You're not supposed to long rest after every battle, you're supposed to use a lot of cantrips and try to save your spells for moments when they're needed, like potions. Or in the case of Warlocks, you regain spells on a short rest. Also Circle of the Land Druids do too. Sorcerers rarely run out of spells at higher levels, but the trade off is that they get fewer spells, so if you want to cast all of the time in combat you want a sorcerer who has a pile of nearly-always-good spells like Magic Missile, Chromatic Orb, Fireball, etc.

Oooooooh

that explains a lot

[-] PoetSII@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Tbf a lot of companion interaction in BG3 is tied to long rests, so it makes sense to be pretty heavy handed with them

[-] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 10 months ago

For sure, in my previous comment I was just talking more generally about how D&D is designed

[-] teft@startrek.website 7 points 11 months ago

Evocation school can help you with hitting your buddies with AOE. They get spell sculpting and won’t hit their compatriots with their spells.

[-] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

shit that's awesome BRB respeccing

[-] vzq@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 11 months ago

and everything that isn't stone or metal burns

Oh yeah that really sucks. I’ve definitely set fire to a few ladders. There’s one in the underdark with a trap at the bottom that sets fire to it if you’re not careful that is just sadistic.

[-] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

I shrugged at that one and said "guess I don't need to go that way"

[-] Amir@lemmy.ml 2 points 11 months ago

You can get a big jump ritual on one character and then it's easy to get anywhere

[-] irmoz@reddthat.com 5 points 11 months ago

I'm not sure i quite get this 😅

[-] sneezycat@sopuli.xyz 9 points 11 months ago

Some spells are "concentration", which means you have to actively concentrate on them to keep the effect going.

You can't concentrate on two different concentration spells at once. So when they cast Hunger of Hadar, the two ongoing Haste effects stopped, also making the affected characters lethargic, which means they can't do anything next turn.

[-] irmoz@reddthat.com 4 points 11 months ago

Thank you, that makes perfect sense

[-] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 2 points 11 months ago

Is that from G-Reco?

[-] glimse@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

I did basically the same thing last night... Felt so dumb..
