Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Summary

Donald Trump’s re-election has been widely celebrated by “heterodox” influencers and male-dominated online figures, who had previously branded themselves as politically independent but now openly support Trump.

Joe Rogan endorsed Trump hours before the election, attributing his change of stance to Elon Musk’s influence.

Musk, who has become more openly right-wing, has also embraced Trump’s win, sharing celebratory posts.

Figures like Jordan Peterson, Sneako, and Dave Portnoy echoed support or voiced frustration with Democrats, aligning with Trump’s appeal to young male voters, especially those who endorse traditional masculinity and conservative values.

You don't see the overlapping appeal? It's about authenticity - not policy. Bernie is as authentic as they come. If he's not running, the Libertarian party is a natural second choice - you have to be pretty sure of yourself to stand on a debate stage and argue for letting people die in the street. Trump had that same energy in this last campaign, so in hindsight I'm not surprised that he won over these people.

So, if I authentically offer to kick his nuts up into his stomach that'll be enough for him to him to like me? He has literally zero opinions on what actually might be a good or bad idea for the country, just so long as I say it with gusto?

I do get it, but I find it pretty outlandish. If he was born in Mad Max Fury Road, would he just be perfectly happy being one of those pole guys? They seem very authentic, look like they're having a blast too. "Witness me!"? When I see drug cartels and their quest for money and power, they seem very authentic about it. Very authentically killing everyone who crosses them.

Not gonna lie, that's a problematic value system.

edit: Should also make him damn leery of Trump, if he has any sort of real instincts about people. Rich assholes are not bottomless wells of authenticity.

If you promise to pat him on the back if he "takes it like a man?" Probably.

PS trump, musk, and Peterson have known ties to shady Russian shit. Don't know about rogan. In other words.

The guy who was less funny than Andy Dick influenced the US election.

This timeline is dogshit.

I do not want to give meathead Rogan credit for Trump directly because I really don't think his last-minute endorsement was what put Trump over the edge.

What he has done, in some ways, is worse. He helped foster an incredibly toxic atmosphere that got Trump back into power whether or not he directly endorsed him. Rogan could have endorsed Harris at the last minute but he had already done that damage.

I just don't think the endorsement made much of a difference.

[–] PorradaVFR@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I agree that wasn't the last straw but his reach to promote ignorance with utter confidence is stunning. Jenny McCarthy's worst fever dream will have less impact on vaccines than this douche will.
