Are there any recent Android models that have native call recording enabled in EU?

I will root the phone if necessary, but considering that Google is closing the platform down even more by making custom/rooted ROMs fail security checks, I would prefer to avoid that.

GrapheneOS has native call recording without root. I haven't used it in six or eight months, but it worked last time I tried it.

GrapheneOS has the problem as LineageOS.

Is it possible to automatically record all calls? And is it easy to copy all the resulting files off the phone?

That I can't tell you. My Graphene phone broke and I'm using a Googled phone at present (bleh).

I checked Graphene's features page, but this was all I could find:

Call recording functionality within the Dialer app using modern Android storage with recordings stored in Recordings/Call Recordings and no restrictions based on region or special cases like playing a recording tone (users are still responsible for complying with their local laws).

My FP3 on /e/OS (based on lineage) has native recording. The phone passes safetynet check, i believe due to microG. However, some apps consider the bootloader unlocked so YMMV.

That app doesn't work as it needs some play API which I guess is not implemented in microG. I am guessing not all of them are passed though.

BCR needs root but works on most roms

BCR is the best call recorder I know, if you are going to root your phone.

SamFW Tool to the rescue! I changed my CSC code to INS which enabled call recording. Downside is that Samsung Pay is unreliable but not sure if that's related to this change. Personally, I'd take call recording over Samsung Pay.

SamFW is for Samsung phones, right?

What is the native call recorder like? Does it have an option to record all calls automatically? Is it silent to the other party?

I forgot to say... Samsung only! It's a basic recorder, records automatically, no audible notification as far as I'm aware (that might depend on the CSC code you use and legal requirements of that country). Playback is from within the recent calls list.

Is it easy to copy all the files off the phone?

They're just files saved to some location on the phone. So it's as easy as copying or transferring any file.

[-] ouch@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Do you remember if it's a location accessible by all apps with permission, or a location private to the recording app?

I've seen both in recording apps.

Good question... Accessible to all apps so you can copy, move, sync.

Thanks for all the information.

It looks like Samsung with SamFW and CSC change is a viable option without rooting.

My pleasure, let us know how you get on.

My S21 FE has automatic call recording natively, you only have to go to the settings and enable it.

That's probably because you're in a country whose CSC code allows recording.

Which country/CSC are you in? India?

What's native call recording? Like call recording with the default phone app?

I use ACR Phone by "NLL APPS" in the play store. They have you download their app store to download their ACR Helper app to run in the background, which allows the recording. But the quality of the other end's sound is based on your in-call volume. So after the call starts, I have to ensure the volume is turned all the way up. It doesn't have to be on speaker.

I haven't needed to root, or else I'd have trouble getting on certain mobile games that check my phone for root.

Native call recording, as in included in the built in caller app. I think that's the only way to record calls properly on Android after Google killed the APIs that could be used to make call recording apps before.

I don't make many calls, but I have observed the custom ROM I use, ArrowOS, has native screen and audio recording, so perhaps it also has call recording functions, and even if not, I imagine the screen/audio recording could be used for that purpose too.

LineageOS has native call recording.

The problem is that even without rooting, the Android integrity checks fail. Google is slowly closing the Android platform.

Has been EEEing it for years, baking on linux and open-source.
