I watched the director's extended cut and wow that cut makes it so clear that the director is a pedophile it's disgusting. We looked up the differences after and it's the majority of the more questionable scenes. Similarly we looked up the director's wiki page and he's got some gross history (see personal life)

I’ll just leave it here for easy access:

Besson's second wife was actress and director Maïwenn Le Besco, whom he started dating when he was 32 and she was 15. They married in late 1992 when Le Besco, 16, was pregnant with their daughter Shanna, who was born on 3 January 1993. Le Besco later claimed that their relationship inspired Besson's film Léon (1994), where the plot involved the emotional relationship between an adult man and a 12-year-old girl (played by then 12-year-old Natalie Portman). Their marriage ended in 1997, when Besson became involved with actress Milla Jovovich, then 19, during the production of The Fifth Element (1997). "We sensed the special chemistry between us immediately at the auditions and it just intensified during the filming of the movie," said Jovovich.

He married Jovovich on December 14, 1997, when he was 38 and she was 21. They divorced in 1999.

He left his 20 year old wife of four years, mother to his 4 year old child, for a 19 year old.

Insert the pedobear "too old" meme

Dicaprio over here taking notes

The normal version was bad enough in that regard

Yeah, I can't see me watching that extended cut any time soon, I might have to leave rewatching the film for a while, a long while.

Even fifth element has pedo vibes when you realize Lilo is essentially a sexy baby toddler

[-] Excrubulent@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 month ago

Yeah, she's the very epitome of born sexy yesterday. She literally strips in front of them because she's too naive to understand modesty like a toddler.

I miss Gary Oldman’s “unhinged villain” era.

[-] sirico@feddit.uk 2 points 1 month ago

His arsehole old geezer era is pretty good though

“EHH-VVVV-REEEEE-ONEEEEEEE-UH!!!!!!”

[-] FinishingDutch@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Fun fact about that scene: Gary Oldman wasn’t really supposed to shout it that loud, he improvised it as a joke. Which is also why you can see the other actor in the scene jump back a bit.

I actually liked the European version of the movie better because it gave more background on the characters and the story.

Movie with pedo undercurrents, made by a pedo. After you realize he's a pedo, fifth element also makes more sense. Lilo is essentially a baby in a sexy body and everyone wants to fuck her.

He's out of line, but he's right.

I also miss my innocence from having watched a cut of Leon that made their relationship seem more innocent. Or maybe I just wasn't looking for it.

[-] Aermis@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I've seen the more sexual tense awkward cut scenes and theories, but watching Leon I never attributed it more than "a young girl going through puberty forced to age quickly, see her family killed, find a confidant and established a bond she's confusing her attachment with." in the movie I watched Leon nips that sexual relationship thread in the bud. I've seen the alternatives where he does allow it but I thought that was just disturbed fan theories.

Sorry to be the one to break it to you about Luc Besson I guess?

[-] Jumi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Damn, I saw a few short scenes of it and it looked interesting. Oh well, there are other good movies.
