Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

On the assignment sheet, students were asked to answer the overall research question about how the world began. Students were also asked to ponder the following questions:

  • How did the world start?
  • Who started it?
  • When did evil start or did it always exist?
  • Are people inherently good or evil or neither?
  • What is morality?
  • What is religion?
  • What is Christianity?
  • What does it mean to be a Christian?
  • Is God real?
  • Is Satan real?

Exactly one of those bullet points has anything to do with history, and a second is barely relevant

This teacher isn’t just proselytizing and forcing religious instruction; but is horrible at their job.

Damn.

I can't wait to drop acid with my friends and do this as a group assignment. It would be an absolute hoot.

  • How did the world start? Big Bang (depending on definition of world)

  • Who started it? Nobody.

  • When did evil start or did it always exist? Evil didn’t start. The definition depends.

  • Are people inherently good or evil or neither? Neither.

  • What is morality? The categorization of “things” into proper and improper.

  • What is religion? A belief in a supernatural aspect of reality tied to certain rituals or practices.

  • What is Christianity? One of many religions.

  • What does it mean to be a Christian? To believe in the magical resurrection of a Bronze Age Jew.

  • Is God real? Depending on the definition: unknowable. Likely not.

  • Is Satan real? Certainly not.

Grade: F Sue the school.

How did the world start? Well, that depends on how, exactly, you define "the world", doesn't it?

If you mean Earth as a planet, it started thanks to gravity pulling together a collection of dust and gas orbiting the early sun through a process called "accretion".

Who started it? Nobody. It was gravity.

When did evil start, or did it always exist?

Animals have no concept of "morality" so good and evil didn't exist until humans invented them. Sumerian cuneiform records early religious rites from 4,000 BC, but the concepts of "good" and "evil" like fire and the wheel pre-date written language and cannot be precisely dated.

Are people inherently good or evil or neither?

Human beings are born as blank slates with no prior knowledge of good, evil, or anything else. All that is learned behavior. They are inherently neither.

Lots of really interesting things going on here.

The one that sticks out to me is "illegally obtaining $20,000 from Taco Bueno"

"History" teacher/Taco Bueno embezzler?

Give us this day our daily tortillas.

Gray said since she made the Facebook post, Nettie’s world history teacher Erich Richter, who is a non-certified classroom adjust teacher, took down the assignment.

I used to listen to the Educate podcast (still subscribed if they resume publishing). They did a segment on new teachers and the views of some of the enrolling high school teachers made me feel despair. This is what the hollowing-out of our public education system yields. Fight for teachers and public education or nutjobs like this might be teaching your kids.

We will start seeing these cases rise to the top of our kompletely kredible kourt system. There will be nothing we can do but watch.

The World was founded in 1860 by Manton Marble. The evil started when Joseph Pulitzer bought the World in 1883....

How did the world start? It began at the bigee.

Who started it? The driver for those out of the loop. The Stig for those who know.

When did evil start or did it always exist? It started about 20 minutes after finishing the last crunch wrap.

Are people inherently good or evil or neither? Sure.

What is morality? A fluid concept that can change depending on how you want to feel superior to others.

What is religion? Holy SHIT.

What is Christianity? The belief that Christian Grey is bae.

What does it mean to be a Christian? Roughly the same thing as being a Jim or a Loretta or a Bobby.

It's God real? Just as real as Luke Skywalker.

It's Satan real? We've got Trump, who needs Satan?
