The only good thing I have to say about that genre is that it introduced me to some great music, but no fucking thanks to the "artists" who would never credit any of the original songs. Before the collective knowledge about city pop grew I would just have to sit there straining to make out some lyrics to Google amidst the sea of reverb and sidechained kick drum
ok but have you consniddered that the sound of me fatring slowed down 100,000% with paulstretch is the most beautiful ambient music?
Still remember hearing a slow-sad version of Feel Good Inc. and being like "You missed the entire point of the song"
Phonk artist be like:
chopped and screwed be like:
real question because I don't know, is chopped and screwed different from slowed + reverb
screwed imo is the slowed+reverb part, chopped is like this. see how it's like-like this, and the beat goes on? if you want to dig-dig in DJ Screw did a ton-ton of these chopped and screwed mixtapes and-and there are some really great-great cuts in theeeeeem.
