Doing dry July this year.

Yay me!!

However it's still June and the bottle of Jager needs to be emptied.

Huzzah!

Hey look, fire.

Now it's like you've been to the festival! Plus imagine yourself lining up for a $25 pulled pork or beef roll.

A bit of a setback for Elder this morning. The welfare person at his school suggested we try next term for three morning sessions a week in class for an hour each time. When I mentioned it to Elder he had a meltdown, couldn't sleep and now isn't going to this morning's meeting at all ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ๐Ÿ˜” It seems like a bit of a leap from where he is now, and I only told him what it might look like and I didn't push, but I guess it's my fault and I feel like I've set him back by even mentioning it. His therapist actually suggested that online virtual schools might be the solution for now because he's missed the whole first year of highschool up to this point, but the problem with that is Mr P is dyslexic and is not au fait with internet and tech and I have work, so there'd be nobody at home in a position to support him. I'm going to talk to my boss about more flexible hours (the financial planner in my head says, "but we need the money dammit!"), but I'm not optimistic as it is a factory job after all. Virtual Schools Victoria, aside from when the classes are held via video conferencing, are actually very flexible in their scheduling. Going to work now with all this running around in my head and had to put it somewhere ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

Torrenting? I am completely and totally unfamiliar with the term. All media I consume is done so through legitimate means. No copyright infringement here.

That thread on the melbourne sub about the guy who had the mattresses dumped in his yard really makes me mad that the EPA, Council or Police won't do anything about it. They're just letting a scummy business owner get away with it.

[-] bull@aussie.zone 8 points 4 days ago

Agreed. It sparked the vigilante in me and a lot of others in there.

[-] danwritesbooks@aussie.zone 9 points 4 days ago

Bet if you dump it in front of the Council or EPA CEO's house something gets done.

Had a moment today where a modern life tech thing baffled me (online access type thingy), and I got frustrated (eventually solved it). Iโ€™m not that old but Iโ€™m not young either. It used to be utterly effortless to keep up with the latest life admin requirements, but am finding that occasionally I now feel out of the loop. Is this the tip of the iceberg? I donโ€™t want it to be. I donโ€™t want to age and become useless at new stuff that comes out. I Do. not. like. It.

Finished writing letters to all the submissions for my writing competition. They all did such a magnificent job, and some of the stories were genuinely really good with interesting themes and ideas and twists that I decided to make them all winners. So they all get signed copies of my book.

I went to one school on Wednesday and announced the winners at assembly. Public speaking is not fun, but I think I did ok. But what really got me was as I was sitting and waiting, one of the kids randomly asks for a high five. Which I obliged. And the girl next to him goes 'Don't you know who that is? That's [my name]. The author.', which is a all sorts of absurd and crazy and awesome and yeah.

I didn't get it. Pretty bummed out but there's some more opportunities on the horizon.

Damn it.

I'm sorry. Take Simon out for a beer to commiserate tonight yeah? He did his best and deserves it!

I think that's a great idea mate ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm waiting on a response from yesterday's interview which will come next week, another lined up for Monday, and my details being submitted for 2 more roles today.

Something will come through soon ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿพ

Home again after Crazy Day of Hell Week. I am comforting myself with the reflection that it's a whole year before the next one. I am enjoying a much deserved glass of wine and some godlike snax (fancy as shit sandwiches from the freezer) as I cbf cooking tonight due to exhaustion. Going to tap out fairly early tonight I think. Have a drink of whatever on me folks to celebrate.

Handrail done!

Have to say I am fond of squabbling with the old man about how to go about the DIY stuff. There's never any love lost but it is hilarious when there's disagreement.

Sort of a pseudo argument. You can be both right but wrong. You agree to disagree, then disagree on agreeing to finally agree to agree, but deep down you disagree.

I guess that's bonding.

Edit: Aand the rail in question. Bad bwoy be 970mm for dayz which is to code solid as. No one be fallin down them steps fank you very much.

Weird nightmare crew represent ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿงžโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ’ฅ

typed it out then realised it was kinda gross

I dreamt I had weird creatures/fungus/organisms all under my skin. It started with weird ant things coming out of my belly button the it was everything from giant green amoebas to insect type things to fungi. And one giant long thing up one leg that was a tracking device.

Took forever to get to a doctor but he was helping me get them out. Then there was some guy chasing me oh and I had to get to a wedding.

I am bloody exhausted. Off to check my whole body for weird pimples.....(Shudder)โ€ฆ....

Caught up with an old colleague for drinks tonight. We had a good gossip / bitching session about our previous employer, both of who we had problems with, and talking about how much better we are off now.

Then I was craving noodles for dins - still thinking about how good this was. Hit the spot.

Still struggling health wise and having to jump through bureaucratic hoops.

spoiler(I went to hospital and was admitted overnight but didnโ€™t get the intervention I was hoping for/need. Just an escalation of an existing referral.) This pattern may continue for some time so Iโ€™ll probably not be posting much about it and really downplaying it. Because itโ€™s a bummer and nobody wants to read about all that for months or years.

Iโ€™ve found something easy that speeds combing but might still go for the low maintenance cut when I have the chance. Iโ€™ve had the style before, so I know it looks sophisticated and suits me well.

I havenโ€™t been able to do much cooking or gardening lately but might still go and post to the instances in a bit. Pump up the comment numbers. ๐Ÿ™‚

Got the nerves a bit today waiting for a call about the job from Tuesday.

Trying to distract myself pretty much.

Fingers crossed ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿพ

Edit: A sent them an email to "touch base". Better to rip the band aid off in one go I think.

Edit: no luck this time.

On the way to school my daughter came across a flock of little corellas. Of course she took snaps. I think they made her day. It's also the last day of term so it's double happiness โ˜บ

Wow the music down at the Firelight festival is louder than any music I've ever heard from any event and that includes NYE celebrations. Usually the music barely registers with me but it's proper loud. Yelling get out of my yard from the balcony has proven unsuccessful. Stupid festival. Might go down there soon and just coz though.

Bloody white-ass boomers pushing their way onto PTV. Everyone else stood to the side, but these four just had to make sure they got the seats they wanted... Even though there was only, like, 10 of us on the platform, who got on a whole ass train.

And they call my generation ungrateful and mannerless. Pfft.

Train - coughing ppl

Work - person sits at the desk next to me coughing and snotting.

Dentist - kid with chesty cough in waiting room

My boring sock saga.

I am sick of socks having only two or three wears before they get a hole. They are not too cheap, 10-15 a pair. My nails are good, I do do walking, so maybe socks are made for a more sedentary lifestyle. I can't wear tradie socks as they are too thick to fit in my shoes and I have wide feet. I have tried many brands and stores.

I bought some snoopy socks from typo/cotton on today, let's see how they hold up.

What are your faves? Looking for some recommendations here.

Gratitude thread!

Today I'm seeing my friend who I haven't seen in six months (she lives in Sydney) and she's going to surprise another one of my friends :)

Also I was greeted by the doggo when I woke up this morning, which is a rare occurrence. I believe he sees me as lower than him on the food chain hahaha

I'm grateful for, once again, my cat.

For the Monash Legal Clinic in assisting me to get that 9 year shoplifting charge off my record once and for all.

And for the fact that I've been able to get some interview experience this week. (Also have possible interviews next week as well).

discovered I can easily pull my stupid sliding windows out, meaning cleaning them just went from "Damn near impossible" to "a decent project, but perfectly doable". Hopefully the rain holds out a bit on the weekend cause I'd love to tackle a few more. theyve got 15 years of moss and dirt built up.

I have to say the electric blanket was a good investment, better than the heated throw. Because you're able to use an electric blanket under the covers that traps heat and gets much warmer. Very good.

Hot water bottles are also amazing. (Just be careful to replace them every two/three years or at any sign of the rubber perishing. Or they will split/leak and scald you.)

[-] underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 4 points 4 days ago

Well tomorrow looks delightful. 11C and pouring rain. Stay warm and dry out there.
