I'm assuming this is referring to JSO.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_Stop_Oil

Beginning on 1 April, they carried out England-wide blockades of ten critical oil facilities, intending to cut off the supply of petrol to South East England.[33][34][35]

On 26 August, the group blocked seven petrol stations in Central London and vandalised fuel pumps. Forty-three people around London were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

On 20 June, the protestors spray painted private jets at a private airfield at Stansted Airport. The group had been targeting a jet belonging to singer Taylor Swift, but could not locate it.[140]

Yes, a lot of their protests are "awareness" stuff (basically none of which do actual damage. Unlike oil, actually!). No, it's not just that. The UK isn't an active warzone so bombing stuff is slightly more difficult to justify.

The reason they stopped directly targeting oil infrastructure in the UK is because the oil/gas giants bought injunctions (private laws) banning protest near them, leading to people going to prison for holding signs on a grass verge outside an oil refinery.

[–] Sekoia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 4 months ago

Wow, I didn't know that! That's absolutely wild

Recommended the book "How to Blow Up a Pipeline" by Andreas Malm so you can explain to your boomer parents why this kind of protest is necessary and why violence against private property is an effective and necessary means of gaining justice.

The chad is just an ecoterrorists. Both are valid forms of saving the environment. The chad will become more common as more realize we are out of time and as more die due to climate change.

[–] MNByChoice@midwest.social 39 points 4 months ago (2 children)

The chad is just an ecoterrorists.

Pretty sure the Chad is trying to defend their country by destroying the aggressors revenue stream. (I could have missed some other news though.)

[–] rockerface@lemm.ee 8 points 4 months ago

We can do both at the same time

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

I mean yeah, in the context of Ukraine. You take that out of the war and its classified as terrorism to just destroy oil refineries I'm pretty sure

[–] Bye@lemmy.world 34 points 4 months ago (3 children)

Based

Imagine how much better the world would be if gas cost $100 per gallon

[–] conditional_soup@lemm.ee 23 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Gas prices mean nothing if you can take the train. Every time gas prices jump, people start thinking about alternatives. Might be pretty sick, actually.

[–] Bye@lemmy.world 23 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Exactly.

If gas cost $100 per gallon, cities would HAVE to build trolleys or subways. Which is my dream. I just want trains

I, for one, would be whole lot poorer and a whole lot hungrier.

Idk where you get your food from, but mine comes from a store up the road a bit and is mostly delivered using vehicles that use gasoline to deliver it there.

[–] Xavienth@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 4 months ago

Of course, that would never change in the face of changing financial incentives. The world as it is is the world as it ought to be.

Peaceful protesting only works for so long.

[–] naevaTheRat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 31 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

You are literally spreading propaganda against climate protest.

Why? Do you want to discouraged protest? Do you want to distract from the environmental vandalism of oil companies? Do you want to empower governments to pass anti protest measures?

What is your goal here? If you are trying to recruit for an eco terrorist cell surely you'd do better psyching people up rather than ridiculing some of the most risk-comfortable protesters.

edit: You know I'm actually not done. They haven't destroyed any paintings, they threw soup on glass. Unlike the fossil fuel industry which has destroyed like entire fucking species, in unknowable numbers.

Also you want to whinge about a blocked road but want people to destroy pipelines? what do you think happens when petrol stations can't get fuel? Sure seems like that'll stop even more people getting to work on time.

Could you uncritically absorb oil company astroturfing and pro status quo media bullshit a little less eagerly?

relevant usa civil rights quote applies:

First, I must confess that over the last few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season."

Shallow understanding from people of goodwill is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection."

Your armchair iamvertsmart take is counterproductive.

IDK "Matt Walsh" seems like a perfectly average white person name to me. What makes it a troll name?

The chad virgin vs chad format vs the virgin drake format

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Western Left: Terrified of guns, won't touch one, thinks we can vote our way out.

Me: Ready for when Red Shirts come.

"NO! It won't work like that!!"

Women, LGBT and minorities are the largest gun buying demographic:

"NO! Not like that!!"

The Ukrainians got a clue. Do you?

[–] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.world 23 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I wish more leftists would arm themselves, not because they need to use them, but because the very sight of it might be enough to scare Republicans into doing some kind of gun control. Like when the Panthers started arming themselves

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

its not just oil tho, its overproducing cheap crap mostly

[–] JohnDClay@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Remember, refineries are the bottleneck not the wells and pipelines. So targeting it all on refineries has the highest impact to production.

Donating to United24 hopefully helps if you can't volunteer yourself. Does anyone have info on how to donate to Ukraine anti oil more specifically?

[–] doingthestuff@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Is war a goal now? Who am I kidding, it always has been.
