this guy literally was supposed to be the new guy. he was intensely critical of the last guy (hoffa's kid, presided over a long period of stagnation and decline) and under him they secured a massive UPS contract
That contract was way less than they could have got. All the American lefties celebrating it were either unfamiliar with how you win good contracts or understood but wanted to say, "good job rah rah see socialists support you".
I don't think a single "major" left org provided critical support, only uncritical.
This is the kind of outcome to expect from union reform campaigns that center vague ideas of tossing out corrupt people or being "democratic". Reform needs to center class struggle or most of the time you'll just get a new guard with basically the same problems. That's what socialist parties have in the past, it worked well.
