I sincerely believe many of them can be convinced to leave that ideology.

There's millions of examples of conservatives changing their stance on things. It's almost ALWAYS because it's suddenly affecting their personal lives. They never give a single ioata of care or compassion to other human beings until it is in their life and they have to confront it.
That's so true though. It's all about individualism until they need help.
