But running a dishwasher (if you already have one and use powder and not tabs) is much cheaper in water heating costs than washing by hand.

I think that's only true if you're actually filling the dish washer with dirty dishes. It would take me long enough to fill my dish washer that it would start to stink.

When I was living alone I had something that was called "table dishwasher". It was a little thing with only one drawer and I filled it roughly every 1-2 days.

An average (read large) dishwasher consumes ~12l of water per cycle. That's equivalent to letting the tap run for ~30 seconds.

A good dishwasher uses ~0.6kwh/cycle. That's equivalent to ~10l of hot water. Again, ~30 seconds of tap water.

Tbh I don't think I run the faucet for 30 seconds to wash dishes for the day. It's basically just cutting board, knife, a plate, and a bottle. 10 seconds max

I'll remember that on the rare occasions I cook up food for lots of people, though. That's definitely more than 30 seconds!

Yeah I live by myself and during the week only cook dinner plus snacks, so it takes me 3+ days to fill it up enough to justify running it and even then it starts it get…iffy.
