I got bad news for you, I think Lemmy does in fact track it out of necessity with how the backend works. It's just not displayed anywhere on the website. It can still be accessed though. Using WefWef for example I can see both mine and others post and comment score totals.
reddit uses it to block new users from posting/commenting in some subs. you can't do that with all subs, of course; otherwise nobody could ever get enough to post anything. it's a bit stupid tbh
