That awkward moment when a president wins a fourth term but it's a good thing

Edit: Did really nobody understand this or did the tankies show up?

EDIT 2: This was crossposted to ML. I accidentally walked into the psych ward. I hope somebody shuts down ML. I really really deeply do.

Why, if the people democratically vote for someone why should they be artificially limited?

[–] syreus@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago (2 children)

To prevent bad actors from consolidating power and corrupting the systems that keep those elections free and fair. Are term limits perfect? No. Do they solve more problems than they create? Probably.

I appreciate that you also said "probably".

Already rolling your T-40 on the streets to kill some protesters demanding "The People's" involvement in decision making?🥰 You sweet little tankie❤️

[–] freeman@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

Yes, Lula is the one who will bring out the tanks. Not the son of an ex-military officer that is in prison for a coup attempt.

Nazi scum.

This was crossposted to ML. I just noticed. Brace yourself

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world -1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Surprised to see this down voted but then I remembered that .ml still exists.

I genuinely have no idea why you think lemmy.ml users would be mad about Lula winning or whatever. Am I misunderstanding? And cross posted articles have their own separate comment sections anyway, and everyone in the worldnews com of lemmy.ml is celebratory. https://lemmy.ml/post/54505143 https://lemmy.ml/post/54504170

You don't understand why dictator apologists would think that unlimited terms are acceptable?

[–] bilb@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I see now that you and the person who started this comment thread are continuing an argument from somewhere else about term limits where you might have, traumatically, wound up with a negative comment score or something. This, of course, means that lemmy.ml must be eradicated. You're perfectly reasonable.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No this is just yet another proof that lemmy.ml is full of trolls and mentally regressed who justify bad politics and ideas because of their own insuficiencies and trauma. It's a sad place more akin to r/incels but with political enlightenment flavor, though at least the incels keep to themselves.

I think you have a distorted understanding about the users of lemmy.ml. At best. Another "proof?"
