Had an appointment with my psych today, and I’m starting an antidepressant tomorrow.

Unsolicited advice below 🙏

If you haven't done antidepressants before, prepare yourself for some migraine like side effects for a week or so. Also, don't expect happiness or quick effects. Took several months before they took off the edges for me. Which is to say, good luck and be kind to yourself! 🌸

Last time I was on antidepressants was back in like 2003.

My psych warned me specifically that I ought not to expect an immediate “I’m super happy” effect, and that it will be four to six weeks for it to build up enough in me to have a chance of seeing a therapeutic effect.

Thanks for the well wishes and the advice.

I've been on 3 different antidepressants and have never had any headache effects.

Don't give people unsolicited medical advice like this; let their doctor prepare them for whatever meds they're being prescribed. I'm sure you're trying to help but all you're doing is creating placebo effects for negative outcomes.

Migraines are not at all a common side effect of antidepressants. It isn't likely to do that like it did with the other user.

I think antidepressants are supposed to take like a month to kick in tho so the waiting period can suck a bit lol.

Best of luck and I'm proud of you for trying. I started my mental health journey last year in March. It was a hell of a long and painful road, but it put me in so much more of a better place. I also ended up trying out several different types of medications before I landed on what my brain seems to like I guess. Therapy was an important part of the picture too.

We're rooting for you!

Most antidepressants state 6-8 weeks for full effect. Closer to two months.
