Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

ICE official, who was sleeping on man’s lawn and appeared ‘intoxicated’, faces felony charges, California police say

A 72-year-old man shot an off-duty Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official in California early on Friday morning after the “intoxicated and agitated” official assaulted him and his daughter on their property, local authorities allege.

The Fresno police department said that the ICE official was receiving medical care after being shot in the midsection. The official, identified as David Gonzalez, is facing felony charges for assaulting the father-daughter duo, Fresno police said.

It was not immediately clear for how Gonzalez had been with ICE and what exactly he did for ICE. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE, referred all questions about Gonzalez to Fresno police.

He's not a cop. He's got some self control, restraint and a general unwillingness to commit murder.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 41 points 18 hours ago

I'd argue killing an ICE agent is closer to pest control.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 7 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

True, but ICE agents are barely human anyway, so I say fuck em.

[–] VeryVito@lemmy.world 43 points 18 hours ago (4 children)

They're human. They represent the worst of humanity, but dehumanizing is their game, and it's best not to play it.

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 1 points 6 hours ago

Naah. They’re subhuman garbage.

Mmm nope, gonna have to disagree. Your statement is a demonstration of the paradox of tolerance in action.

Any ICE agent, at any time, can choose to no longer be an ICE agent. The people that ICEatzgruppen are targeting and repressing and brutalizing and deporting and killing cannot choose to not be targeted.

Fascists should be scared for their lives, always. The fact that they aren’t anymore, and haven’t been for at least a decade now, is a big part of how we got here.

[–] VeryVito@lemmy.world 17 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not saying they're good people. They're the worst of us, but they aren't doing anything humans aren't capable of doing. Don't trust them, but keep an eye on your own limits, too, as you don't want to follow their lead.

I saw someone else say they think of it as "pest control" and I agree with every fiber of my being.

I don't agree with your statements at all. It's not a slippery slope to want to protect your fellow citizens from a modern Nazi SS

ETA: I bet others back in the 1930s Germany were saying/thinking the exact same as you are right now. And I'd tell them to fuck all the way off because of it.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

"They're human" is not the same as defending them. Kinda cringe to call someone a Nazi for refusing to dehumanize their enemy.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

I was not calling them a Nazi. I was calling ICE Nazis.

[–] voidsignal@lemmy.world 7 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Exactly. Intolerance can't be tolerated.

[–] VeryVito@lemmy.world 10 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Never said they should be tolerated. Being human doesn't make them good or right; it's just a reminder that they weren't born different.

...LEADS INTO HELL

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 0 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I've been counselled to make sure if you ever have to shoot someone that you empty the clip into them, as it implies you were pannicked , in fear for your life, and and not in control of the situation.

Yep... the whole clipazine 🙄
