Donald Trump railed against Sen. Tom Cotton in a series of posts on Saturday, accusing the Arkansas Republican of holding up a bill that would make Daylight Saving Time permanent and encouraging people to call the senator at his cellphone number.

DJT is ass, Cotton is ass, DST is ass (use Standard time), fuck everyone involved

[–] ThanksObama@sh.itjust.works 62 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I don't care which one it is. Just pick one and save the poor clock arms from abnormal forced movement. This is machine abuse.

[–] cyphear@thelemmy.club 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

The Omnissiah approves of your message. Machine abuse has got to stop.

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 11 points 5 days ago

Their machine spirits scream in agony each time their aging hands are forced into new positions.

[–] mysticpickle@lemmy.ca 22 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Don't give a shit. Priority #1 is stopping this time changing madness first. Just lock a time in and we can revisit the DST vs Standard time shit later.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 17 points 6 days ago

we can revisit the DST vs Standard time shit later.

I know! We can revisit it twice every year! ;-)

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 15 points 6 days ago

Exactly. It's all arbitrary. So I get up at 8 or get up at 7. I don't care. Just let it be consistent

[–] BrianTheeBiscuiteer@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago (3 children)

I want whatever time keeps me from driving directly at the sun on my morning and evening commute.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 19 points 5 days ago

Live east of your work…

Your problem is with Sol Invictus, don't think anyone can help with that one.

[–] Floodedwomb@lemmy.world 0 points 5 days ago

Get a different job, use public transit.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I concur at a one-hour offset.

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

But only for half the year.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Standard time year round is my idea of hell. I would rather keep the time change.

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Standard time is better for your health though

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 0 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Time is a human construct. It doesn’t matter what time it is.

Also, if that mattered then people wouldn’t say “but work starts at 8:00” when I suggest starting later in the winter…

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)
[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works -1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Which is why I would want to start later than 8:00…

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Why do you want to move the number around when you can move the schedule if that's important to you

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 days ago (2 children)

You clearly didn’t read the part where I was told “but work starts at 8:00”.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

ok so next time tell them it starts at 10. then widdle them down to a 9 am compromise.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That’s not how any of this works…

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)
[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You can’t join a union when you work for the state.

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Skill issue, you can in my country

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What a fucking shithead thing to say. Where I was born is not a skill issue.

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 0 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Missed the point by a mile. Go support your local union. If you don't have one, start one. If the law says no, work to get the law appealed.

If you're doing nothing, then yeah it's a skill issue. Or will issue.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

Fuck off shithead.

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Then fix that. Don't mess with the clock.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You are being obstinate and not really contributing to the conversation at this point.

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

You're the one who want the clock to be permanently wrong (off from solar noon) just to keep the number unchanged on your schedule, that's pretty crazy. You can just have the clock be correct and change your schedule.

"that's not how it works" yeah I know you've abandoned the idea of negotiating with employers dude, that's your problem not mine

[–] captcha@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Noon at solar noon is crazy. As I moved to a place where it is further from solar noon, I got even more sure about that

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That just means your circadian rhythm and your schedule are crazy. The clock matching the sun is simply correct. You just need to relearn what numbers goes with what degree of daylight.

[–] captcha@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

If I were waking up on sunrise, that would definitely make sense

[–] Natanael@infosec.pub 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Why does it matter so much what the number is on the clock then that you want the clock to be permanently offset instead of accurate? We can have the clock be simple and make sense and let some people adjust once to the number having changed. You'll be doing the same things at the same solar time anyway, now with a correct clock attached.

[–] captcha@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

In the practical sense it matters because solar noon is at different time in the same place, but that difference is about 20 minutes, not that much. And it's different in different places, too, that means it's going to require a lot more time zones depending on how precise you want to be.
