It makes the protest look like a wild riot

This is not a bad thing. A protest that doesn't offer the threat of a riot is nothing but a parade.

As an American I was so impressed that the students immediately saw though the bullshit system that knows time is on its side. Ots obvious their problems were being ignored but the state can't ignore a fire.

If nothing else, a riot threatens commerce. People aren't buying things when there's a riot, even if nobody is looting.
