The pupils’ grievances range from overloaded timetables and overcrowded classes to insufficient teachers and unbearable temperatures during heatwaves earlier this year.

These things have been going on for too long. I live in France and work in higher education.

It might seem like a weird thing to complain about, seeing how many vacations we have here, but students do spend more time in class compared to other countries. We have to start at age 3 here. We haven't seen any benefits from this yet.

It is a very normal thing for teachers to be absent without replacement for months at a time. Some students I work with didn't have a maths or language teacher for their final year in high school.

There are schools with more students than desks, with windows that don't open, with leaks, with bathroom stalls without doors. I have held lectures in rooms where the temperature was 37°C and admin said "bring a fan from home". On Tuesday of this week it was 32 in my class.

I hate seeing things burn. It makes the protest look like a wild riot. One of the private elite schools also did a walkout and protest... Did the police show up? They sure did, but they didn't lay a finger on anybody because you never know who their parents are. The press makes this look insane, but student protests have the support of the communities as far as I can tell.

This is not a bad thing. A protest that doesn't offer the threat of a riot is nothing but a parade.

As an American I was so impressed that the students immediately saw though the bullshit system that knows time is on its side. Ots obvious their problems were being ignored but the state can't ignore a fire.

Thoses are kids what threat do they pose ?

If nothing else, a riot threatens commerce. People aren't buying things when there's a riot, even if nobody is looting.

to make the people doing these things afraid of the consequences of doing so, and so not do them

Starting at three wont stop as its about providing free childcare so the parents can work rather than being results based. Yes thats awful, its also the same reason schools wont shut during heat waves as it impacts child care and thus workers.

Ugh, I can already hear my parents parrot Zemmour's "l'eNsAuVaGeMeNt" while watching CNews.

Woah, is this the scene in both public and private schools in france?

[–] pasdechance@jlai.lu 6 points 1 day ago

Private schools have smaller classes and more funding from tuitions and fees. I have not heard about issues with missing teachers in private schools, but the temperature part does happen. Just looking at what is happening where I live today, most of the high schools are closed to keep students safe, a few are barricaded by students.

It isn't like there are roaming gangs of teens out in the streets. I have not seen any of the protests with my own eyes because there are no schools between my house and my work (which is a university, but a private one so the students won't blockade it because they pay to be here...)

Education national is just utterly badly run. If u r a teacher and wanna do good u wont have the tool to do so. On the other hands if u dont give a flying fuck then everything will go well for you. The only viable short term solution is to simply reshake the hierarchy of that watsefull institution that doesn't produce anything of value. On the other hand wanting every kid going trough school as a way of national cohesion show their limit since so long. Having teacher being beheaded cause some inhuman retard cause offended is next level broken. The institution still hasn't learn their lessons. It s not giving 10k prime a year so teacher are enclines to take care of trash that the system will work. I also known most student only use the legetime concern about the state of affair do do everything under the sun except learn. So much stuff to do about everything in regarding that failing administration.
