Looking back, there are several times where someone let me know they liked me in some obvious fashion, and I totally missed it. Only in hindsight do I see how obvious they were. Several of them I had a mad crush on as well.
A girl I had a crush on once asked me if I'd like to sleep on a bed with her. I politely refused this offer and quickly left, so that things wouldn't get awkward. The image of her sitting on the bed, so beautiful and completely dumbfounded will be forever burned into my mind's eye.
When the realization of what I had done hit me it made me want to maim myself. This was over 30 years ago, but just thinking about it still hurts like hell.
Very few people have been able to get through the wall of my self-hatred.
"Hey, I think that so-and-so likes you."
"No they don't. No one does."
I was terrible at reading body language and expressions. Slight improvements have been made.
I have basically never been able to tell someone liked me if I was also interested in them. I could only recognize interest from the ones I was not interested in. Even with my now-wife it took me 4 months to figure it out and ask her out, and she kind of gave up for a while in there.
I can only tell if they're interested if they're also totally fucking insane, whether I was interested or not. I'll get a bad feeling about a seemingly normal woman and then within three days I'll hear she beat the shit out of one of her coworkers or something.
And then you have the ultra rare they like you, you like them, but the time you try to act on it they get nervous and decline/don't reciprocate so you think they're not interested so you move on and now they're pissed at you
