Can you give me some reading on these two? Obviously I've heard about Theil a decent amount but nothing about his personal life.
I had believed that the cognitive dissonance would be wholly insurmountable for sexuality in a way that it isn't for things you can handwave away by believing hard enough in eugenics (just repeat "I shouldn't have been born like this" enough times that you can maintain your bigotry), but I really haven't thought deeply about it. It's just so hard for me to imagine someone being openly lgbt while saying it shouldn't be a thing and not being crushed to death under the cognitive dissonance. What is the out so they can live with that?
I'm capable of picturing someone openly lgbt advocating that they should be second-class citizens, that's unfortunately something that happens as a way to try to find acceptance in a deeply bigoted crowd. I can't figure out how someone would say they shouldn't exist entirely and just...live with that contradiction.
Class.
You're looking at identity by itself. You need to intersect it with class. A poor prole gay does not behave the same way a member of the bourgeoisie who is gay behaves. Class insulates them from the side effects of what they sow against others in their identity. Class supersedes identity in almost all circumstances where it intersects, a member of the bourgeoisie will choose their class interests before their identity interests if the two interests are not aligned with one another.
Identity politics alone do not provide a good analysis of outcomes within groups without looking at the intersection with class.
To be absolutely clear here - I am not saying identity politics are bad, I am saying they are incomplete without the inclusion of class in the analysis.
I think I was just taking it too literally. What you're saying is obviously correct, I was getting stuck because they don't literally believe in anti-lgbt ideology, they're just willing to adopt it without hesitation when it's convenient for them. It makes sense to talk as though they believe in that when functionally it is their ideology, but it isn't literally given that they'd become pro-lgbt overnight if that ever benefited them more. There's no cognitive dissonance when you don't care enough to form real beliefs.
We are communist, who's thinking and worldview is driven by dialectical materialism, which naturally destroys contradiction, dissonance, and seeks logical outcome. This does not mean we are free of bigotry or contradiction (let he who is without sin cast the first stone), but our worldview pushes us away from those things and towards analysis
Reactionaries do not operate off coherent worldview, their thinking is driven by gut instinct fueled by propaganda and whatever other horseshit is fed to the average westerner. They live with contradiction easy
Thiel famously funded Hulk Hogan's lawsuit against Gawker after they revealed that he's gay.
Alice Weidel is more baffling. She is very on top of how her living with her wife in Switzerland is talked about by the media. Like the first article you can find about her being homosexual is with the Bild basically the worst tabloid in Germany and she just mentioned as a sidenote that she is living with a female partner.
Yeah she talks about her homosexuality in the straightest way possible.
