You're looking at identity by itself. You need to intersect it with class. A poor prole gay does not behave the same way a member of the bourgeoisie who is gay behaves. Class insulates them from the side effects of what they sow against others in their identity. Class supersedes identity in almost all circumstances where it intersects, a member of the bourgeoisie will choose their class interests before their identity interests if the two interests are not aligned with one another.
Identity politics alone do not provide a good analysis of outcomes within groups without looking at the intersection with class.
To be absolutely clear here - I am not saying identity politics are bad, I am saying they are incomplete without the inclusion of class in the analysis.
I think I was just taking it too literally. What you're saying is obviously correct, I was getting stuck because they don't literally believe in anti-lgbt ideology, they're just willing to adopt it without hesitation when it's convenient for them. It makes sense to talk as though they believe in that when functionally it is their ideology, but it isn't literally given that they'd become pro-lgbt overnight if that ever benefited them more. There's no cognitive dissonance when you don't care enough to form real beliefs.
