Well, I mean they've been kinda obsolete for atleast three decades.

Here in the US we had these things! And you could get these things at dollar stores.

But I've been reflecting on these things after finding we still had one of these lights in the house. I couldn't recall actually seeing one of these in the store. Sure enough when I went to go look in the store, couldn't find any!

It's a little sad I guess, something I grew up with is now essentially gone.

But tbf these things only got used in these specific flashlights and deer hunting equipment.

LEDs can produce way more light with a smaller body and smaller battery. I do wonder if anyone’s made LED flashlights with the same body style.

There is funny flash lights that can illuminate a town square like it's day time.

full on lantern style I don't know of any off the top of my head but you can just replace the bulbs with drop-in LEDs

there is specific industry equipment which has maintained the same form factor but is now offered in LED (for an upcharge) such as this trainman's lantern: https://www.starsafetytechnologies.com/online-shop/star-2012-led-trainmans-lantern

And there are LED maglites that are in the same body as the old C/D battery torches I believe.

I think the main reason that Maglite exists now is as a self-defense baton with plausible deniability.
