I found a router, and it was compatible with openwrt. I have some ideas of what to do with it, but if you have any cool projects or ideas, please tell me about them.

I should add that I have a home server already that I route my internet through for adblock and hosting services, so I'm looking for something a little more off the wall.

If you have homelab, it's kinda a necessity. Especially if you have multiple servers that are constantly screaming at each other or running backups.

Anything less will heavily limit your fileio speed since 10G is only ~1GB/s best case, and that's likely going to be split across many connected devices.

You can always get a different router box that supports 10G and use the WRT as a node.

I had an OPNSense router that used to be a digital signage PC (one that used Ethernet to control the TVs) and I was able to slap a NIC card in there and get it up to 10G. The SFP ports are definitely where it's at if you have a fiber connection, or want to directly link two servers tho.
