I found a router, and it was compatible with openwrt. I have some ideas of what to do with it, but if you have any cool projects or ideas, please tell me about them.

I should add that I have a home server already that I route my internet through for adblock and hosting services, so I'm looking for something a little more off the wall.

you can route device connect event via mqtt to lights or something home assistant friendly, if you have beefy router you can run whole assistant on it, but it’s very dodgy for now and it’s a heavy app

Yeah, I don't think this router will handle home assistant well, but an mqtt server would work

there were some work to pull the movement detection as well, but last I checked they were heavy as shit or required offloading signal processing
