I love having one. I just struggle finding material these days to make clothes. There are so few stores left that sell it and I don't want to buy online since you can't tell the quality or texture, plus online often you have to buy in bulk rather than cutting it to what you need like in a store. I miss Joanne's. Michael's just doesn't have selection or quality, and there aren't many independent places left.
When my grandma died she had so much fabric stored away. If all wasn't 1,000 miles from home we would have kept more than we did. Hobby lobby is the last place around that has some. Maybe things will turn around in 2027. Editing clothes seems to be the ticket and cheap from the thrift store.
As an LGBTQ+ woman, not to mention someone who has a couple of friends with diseases triggered by COVID, I refuse to give any money to Hobby Lobby.
I have not bought from there in two years. Christian companies scare me. Kinda the opposite of Jesus
You could reuse the cloth from 2nd hand textiles. Can be surprisingly cheap and good for the environment.
Usually there's not enough solid pieces when recycling for making clothes and remnants are usually only enough for quilting or similar projects. Few people used to buy an entire ream of the kinda of fabric nice enough for being worth the effort to make clothing from when you could go to places like Joanne's and cut the exact amount you needed of more expensive material. So I haven't had any luck with second hand places for fabric, though they are good for things like elastic, fasteners, etc.
