• JJ Abbrams ("I don't like Star Trek") grim-dark space fantasy movies
• Owned by deranged zionist-fascist company within the larger holdings of a techno-fascist empire
• Roddenberry as anchor dead
• Elon Musk celebrated as visionary
• Whipped into generic space fantasy IP because it's the only thing of even minor value that has the possibility of a "universe" of content like Disney's Star Wars for its owners who probably derive a huge chunk of Paramount+ subscribers just from viewers of the nu-Trek.
• Show-runners even in the late 90s in the immediate aftermath of Roddenberry were making some questionable choices to tone down the egalitarianism and FALSC nature of it (Rick Berman).

Yeah I'd say it's pretty over unless ownership changes.

Capital subsumes and corrupts all critiques of itself especially in the heart of empire. ToS and TNG could really only exist as they did because of the larger historical and material reality they occupied. Post US victory in the cold war things began to shift and they've continued shifting. Science fiction claims to want to transcend current events and biases but it's very hard to do that and even harder if you want mass market appeal (and funding) in a place like the US.

Trek has been here before -- maybe it's time for a rebirth outside the hands that have shaped it's current iteration. ... Again
