Ratchet effect - when the right (inevitably) overplay their hand and are voted out, the center-"left" come in, and their job is to block any attempts to shift things leftward.
But that’s usually for the shit their handlers actually give a damn about. I doubt their corporate overlords care what the lake and gulf are called. It’s moved from a political agenda to being a Pavlovian response.
