If you work at HARIBO in Germany, grazing is expressly permitted, but the hot and humid air inside the factory just smells SO incredibly sweet, even my fat ass could not stomach more than a hand full of Gummy Bears. The joke with the other people summer-jobbing there was that inhaling too deep would get you diabetes and caries in all teeth instantly.

The worst job there was working on the highest floor under the corrugated metal roof in the height of summer without any climate control... The gummies basically melted while we were packaging them.

Same rules in the Lindt factory! You're always allowed to eat as much chocolate as you like, the only limit is how much you can physically stomach.

I didn't even work there, I just lived close enough to smell it every morning in like 2018. My chocolate consumption drastically plummeted and still hasn't recovered lol

Same thing at the Goodyear factory! The rule was, you can eat as many tires as you want as long as you get your work done, but the whole place smelled so much like melted rubber that hardly anyone took advantage of it.

I was at a factory tour at ferrero with my school class 17 years ago. The smell was so bad that i still wont touch chocolate with very few exceptions today. Sometimes a piece with 95%+ cocoa is fine but i just cannot eat/enjoy the sweet milk chocolate anymore.

Can you bring your own Albanese gummies to work and snack on some actual good gummies?

Tell me more about this unlimited gummy bear hack.

You can get a summer job at HARIBO in the Solingen or Bonn factories and if you're anything like me you won't be able to eat gummies after that for at least a year, because you get nauseuos at the smell.

Pay is good though, or at least it was in the early 2000s.

Are there any limits on grazing?

Well you do have to work, but no. There are pallets and pallets of sugary goodness around you. Need to go anywhere in the factory? You're passing by more than a metric ton of smurfs or berries or wine gummies or, mostly, gummy bears. All sorted by colour, because they get mixed in the oackaging machines.

And every now and then the sudden, vile smell of burnt gummy hits you because the machines that heat-seal the bags have malfunctioned and burnt half a pound inside the plastic again.

Thanks, that is so interesting. I think the temptation would be difficult for me. I don’t even like gummies, but when they’re sitting in front of me for a while …
