3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. 7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

we are talking about populations, not some specific individual.
you literally told a specific individual not to get a gun
Right - because owning a gun dramatically increases their chances of being the victim of gun violence.
You keep saying that in such vague terms. What exactly do you think is gonna happen?
Well what usually happens is that someone is killed with the gun they bought that they thought would make them safer. What don't you understand?
"Usually" huh? How?
Sorry - what's the context here? Usually what?
What do you think usually happens? Does the gun spontaneously jump up, chamber a round, and attack? Or do you seriously think most gun fights result in hand to hand combat where the dude with just hands nearly always wins and disarms then murders the person defending themselves? Cause it sounds like the latter is what you want people to think, but both sound equally as stupid to me.
You know what I think it is? I think that number is mostly suicide. I also think that number deliberately ignores all successful self defense scenarios. Oh I'll bet a bunch of them are abusive partners murdering their victims. But those are exactly the people who needed a good defense option in the first place. Every single day they were already in danger. I'll bet there's also a bunch of dumbass parents who didn't secure their weapon properly to safeguard their dumbass kids. But I'll bet the numbers for strangers breaking in and murdering you in your own home with your own weapon are almost nil. And about the same for concealed carry incidents. Disarming someone prepared to defend themselves with a gun when you don't have one is fucking hard.
So mostly I hear you saying, "if you get a gun there's a slightly increased risk you'll commit suicide!!" If someone is buying a gun because they're worried about being the victim of hate crimes, they probably aren't suicidal.
Look - all of the things you mention are contributing factors in the dramatic increase in risk that someone takes on when they own a gun. The cases where someone successfully defends themselves against an attacker are so rare as to be essentially fantasies that gun-fondlers engage in. If you want to fondle guns, go ahead - just understand how much more risk you are taking on that if you didn't.
Yep, that's exactly what I thought. You have absolutely no idea how many people successfully defend themselves with guns. The 45k you cited deliberately only counted how many people die from their own weapons, and allowed you to deceptively conflate all of them to imply that failure is the majority scenario. You liar. Then you smear transfolk who need a self defensr option as gun fondlers. You fascist sicko.
Defensive gun use is largely a fantasy of gun fondlers. It just doesn't really happen. You are MUCH MUCH more likely to die from your own weapon than be shot by someone else, especially, of course, if you don't own a weapon in the first place. You know that though.
LoL k.
Well it's 100% true. No one is safer with a gun.
Then cite those numbers.
You know perfectly well that simply living in a house with a gun doubles your chance of dying to homicide. I don't need to find the data for you - a simple google search will find them. You well understand the issue - I don't know why you are pretending not to.
Doubles the risk huh? Citation needed.

"Residents who don't own a handgun but live with someone who does..."
First fuckin sentence. Doesn't apply to gun owners at all.
Look you can try to cherry pick - but the problem is that all the data points in the same direction - gun ownership, living in households with guns. etc all makes someone less safe. https://everytownresearch.org/report/disarming-fear-debunking-myths-of-defensive-gun-use/
And again, all you cite is risk of gun ownership, never ever once do you consider the increased risk of assault and murder that the LGBT community and other minority groups face on a daily basis. It outweighs your fears.
But you pretended you couldn't even understand such concerns in order to avoid even mentioning them. Conversation is over.
Yes, in fact I do. The rate at which minority groups are at risk of violence is higher than non minority groups - sure - but: Guns make them less safe - they are more likely to die in the attempt to defend themselves, and dramatically more likely to die to their own hand and to intimate partners - which is why the household risk is relevant. Even though they are at greater risk of victimization, owning guns still makes them less safe, not more. Why are you pretending not to understand this?
You pretended not to understand who I was talking about in order to avoid saying the word "transfolk." You don't give a shit about them. Conversation is over.
And yet I have not avoided saying transfolk. I have told you I have great concern for trans people's welbeing. I am the one who does not want to see more of them die to gun violence - unlike you.
Yet you refuse to understand that this conversation is over.
And yet you are still talking... lol
This conversation is over. As I have told you many times now.
Keep telling yourself that... ;)
This conversation is over. As I have told you many times now.
Because you think gun-fondling is more important than trans lives ;)
You still talking?
I'm happy to talk as long as you do - I just think you've run out of ways to pretend you don't understand the issue, so you've now just posting nonsense to try to save face.
