Wait, closing both is malicious compliance?

I generally believe if your anatomy requires the toilet seat in a certain position, it should be incumbent upon you to ensure it's in the right spot before you use it. 50% (ish) of people usually need it up, and 50% usually need it down, why should girls get to dictate this and complain if I don't preemptively put it down for them? Suck it up, buttercup. Put on (or I guess take off, in this case) your big girl panties and make it work.

That being said, I've just always closed the whole thing before I flush anyway, so now both of us are going to need to raise at least one layer of it before we can use it again. Closed lid reduces splashing the poop particles all over the place, looks nicer and cleaner, hides any racing stripes you haven't managed to pee off yet, etc. Just seems like the right way to go. Nothing malicious about it.

Edit: Jesus fuck, how many stupid gotcha replies are y'all gonna post here?! Yes, I am very clear on the fact that there isn't exactly a 50.000000:50.000000 split of males to females in the world. Yes, I am very clear that it is in fact possible, and sometimes preferred, for men to sit to pee, and that, having done it more than a few times myself, they also occasionally need to sit down to poop. None of that was anywhere near my point.

My point is that if you want or need the toilet seat in a particular position, that's on you, bucko. It's not my job to stage the toilet to your preference, regardless of what is or isn't going on in your undercarriage. I leave it 100% closed, seat and lid, every time, before I flush. What you do with it after that is on you.

Unless men have started to shit standing up, it's not 50/50

[–] TachyonTele_Esq@piefed.social -3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Don't take everything so literally and you will find more people enjoy talking with you

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Their logic is predicated on a 50/50 split that is not 50/50.

Use a little logic and you will find more people enjoy talking with you

usually

(ish)

Yes, I know.

~50% of people are capable of using it while standing, that doesn't mean all want to. I've heard a fair number of men rag on men who won't sit on their own toilet and splash piss everywhere, since it just makes a mess you have to clean up. So the math is actually tipped more in favor of sitters, who make up a non-zero proportion of people who are able to pee while standing, plus everyone who's obligated to pee while sitting.

I think it's weird to care about lifting the lid, but leaving it up shows you left it open while it flushed and that's kinda gross to a lot of people.

50% (ish) of people usually need it up,

......you stand to shit?

This is me as well.

But I might fall in when it’s dark at night!

Then…check before sitting down..?

Like what do they think guys do? We just go in and whip out our dicks and piss all over the seat without checking? Or if we go in to shit, we don’t first check before sitting down?

It’s always been the stupidest argument from the “lid down” side.

Edit: for the record, I live alone but I prefer putting both down. It just looks better and it doubles as a seat.

My rant today is just for the people (men and women, alike; not all women hold that view so I don’t direct it at every woman either) who make that argument as to why the seat must be down.

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I grew up in a household with nightlights in the bathroom - enough light to see what you need to see, but not so bright that it screws up your night vision. Today I live alone and don't have to worry about the seat being left up, but I still got a nightlight because it's just practical.

For the record, I agree. I grew up in a household with all boys (the only girls were me and my mom, but I shared a bathroom with my three brothers) and I've never once fell into a toilet because a seat was left up. Yes, the seats got left up, I just put it down and moved on.

Now, if people could replace the toilet paper when it runs out...

[–] NutinButNet@hilariouschaos.com 0 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

That’s very rational, and night lights make the best sense in a bathroom, honestly.

My beef is just that absolutely dumb argument of “I might fall in!” Then check before sitting down like everyone else does! Lol

It’s up there with “girl math” and “I’m just a girl” that makes me feel annoyed as a response for not following common sense/doing the responsible thing.

I think the seat + lid down makes the best sense of all since it looks cleaner and doubles as a seat. I also have a cover on my lid so it matches the rugs.

Imho it's very easy. One stands in front of a pissoir and one sits on a toilet seat.
"Oh but I only want to piss"
You wouldn't pedal your car, only because you want to go 1 km. You pedal your bike, because it's made that way and you use the gas in your car.

Analogies don't prove anything.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I love how passionately you're arguing a moot point.

If you're gonna do something, do it with gusto.

[–] Vandals_handle@lemmy.world -1 points 4 days ago

Never need the seat up unless cleaning, can sit to urinate.

[–] Paddzr@lemmy.world 0 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Sex split isn't actually 50:50, there's more men than women.

Damn your soul to eternal hell for not counting every single man and woman on the planet just for this comment!!

I'm so sorry, I tried, but I lost count once I ran out of fingers.

[–] TachyonTele_Esq@piefed.social -2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There's more annoying people like you on reddit, too. But here we are.

[–] Paddzr@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Tough crowd I see. Just wanted to post a random factoid. Yeah, it's not even half a % difference but still a useless fact.

[–] W98BSoD@lemmy.dbzer0.com -3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yes, one person wanted it to be easier to use the bathroom and instead it’s now challenging for both people

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 days ago

Yes, hygiene is challenging! Welcome to being an adult!
