This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
- Keep the comments in YPTB posts about the moderation action itself, not about the general topic in which the moderation took place.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.

no, it isn't. gender can be whatever a person chooses it to be. at any time and any place. man, woman, enby. that's a thing one can be. or use a different gender if they feel that way.
i just said sex and gender are very different. because they are. one is changeable, one is not.
nobody is moving any goalposts. it's just how human bodies are.
I'm all for public unisex changing rooms. for anyone of any sex or gender to use as they wish. freely.
but I don't think its transphobic to allow female individuals to have a space away from male individuals. and vice versa.
The 'but there's a unisex bathroom' argument is just as transphobic, as it still falsely labels transgender women as men.
Given that the sexual assault argument is not backed up by a preponderance of real world sexual assaults, merely the theoretical fears of transphobes, basing access to such spaces on birth-assigned sex and not gender denies the real differences between cisgender and transgender individuals, causing the latter unnecessary social and physical harm in the process.
i said nothing about a transgender woman being a man. not once. because they aren't. they're women.
never said anything about sexual assault either. just said that its ok to have female only spaces. just as its ok to have male only spaces.
it honestly sounds like you're just waiting for any excuse to call someone transphobic. regardless of if they actually are or not.
just because you're excluded due to sex doesn't mean you're invalid. at all. i never said it. never. it just means you're not allowed to go there. that's all.
there's tons of spaces I'm not allowed to go. that's how the world works sometimes.
I guess there's one more place that you are excluded from now, but it's not based on your gender. It's based the fact you're a TERF.
I've long suspected @Nima@leminal.space was either a TERF or a transmed but unfortunately she's been really good at maintaining plausible deniability for a while so she hasn't gotten banned for it yet.
Oof. Mic drop.
Yes, biological essentialism is a form of transphobia. Whether you understand it or not. It is the excuse behind the bathroom bans being pushed out by the UK and many US states, and it actually kills people. By arguing that trans women should be segregated from cisgender women and put in with men because they are "biologically male" you are promoting transphobia.
Almost no one in regular usage considers female or male as sexes separate from 'woman' or 'man' as genders in social situations; defining transgender people in that way is largely equating them with crossdressers.
If anything, those calling for bathroom bans are trying to erase the notion of gender as being separate from sex entirely as they by and large believe transgender women are men (and transgender men women), even if you don't.
Ultimately, both positions deny transgender individuals equal status with the cisgender individuals they share a gender identity with, and are therefore both transphobic. It's not possible to push for a bathroom ban without being transphobic.
Ultimately, sometimes it's best just to agree to disagree.
