A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

This article on what Google claims it has done/will do with its AI is extraordinary for all the wrong reasons.

Here’s a sample:

We’ve made extraordinary progress to deliver on our full AI stack.

What ‘stack’? All you have is Gemini which can’t remember what it said yesterday, can’t open a spreadsheet, can’t even get a frickin’ Family Guy quote right!

the Gemini app reached 950M monthly users

Wow! What a way to scam people out of money and data.

At the same time, there’s never been a more important moment to shape the future of AGI and science

Oh boy, where to start with how wrong this one is…

And that’s only a sample of the content of this ludicrous thing…

Yeah, I used to hit the button on the steering wheel and say "call (name)" and it would reliably.. call that person...

Now Gemini took it over and it... Usually calls that person. But sometimes it will inform me that it found a contact by that name in my contacts and disengage as if mission accomplished, sometimes it will do that then ask if I want to call that person, one time it went weird and started speaking what sounded like a reasoning chain (something like: searched for (name) in user contacts, found a match with number 123-456-7890, adding that to the context to continue the conversation).

Note that back in the 2000s, my RAZRv3 could do this task shockingly well. Now thanks to Gemini, it is now less reliable than a 20 year old phone that by necessity did it all on device...
