he also was a total weirdo who like went on dates with his mommy his whole adult life until she died. like I don't mean he was close with his mom in an endearing way. i mean, it was like Buster and Lucille Bluth type shit. she was his constant companion everywhere he went, including his time at the military academy where she watched him march and inspected him every day. she drove away both of his wives. when he was little (the youngest of 3 boys) she made him grow his hair long and wear skirts. honestly, the stories are super weird.

also, he was probably more aggressively and vocally racist than hitler with his role in WW2 and Korea and really, really wanted to be the fascist dictator of america but bungled it and got sidelined by being too overtly hawkish in public.

i think of him like a serial killer who was managed to become a general in war time.

He wanted to drop like a dozen nukes on Korea and China during the Korean War. Among other things but that might be the worst. IIRC the amount of nukes he wanted to drop would cause a global catastrophe from the fallout.

Substantially worse than that. Quote from the man himself, from the wikipedia article on him being fired:

Of all the campaigns of my life, 20 major ones to be exact, [Korea was] the one I felt most sure of was the one I was deprived of waging. I could have won the war in Korea in a maximum of 10 days.... I would have dropped between 30 and 50 atomic bombs on his air bases and other depots strung across the neck of Manchuria.... It was my plan as our amphibious forces moved south to spread behind us—from the Sea of Japan to the Yellow Sea—a belt of radioactive cobalt. It could have been spread from wagons, carts, trucks and planes.... For at least 60 years there could have been no land invasion of Korea from the north. The enemy could not have marched across that radiated belt.

MacArthur also went against orders when he was in charge of defending the Phillipines and absolutely biffed the defense. Honestly he should have been sacked for that alone
