Rules:
1. Be civil

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

This is why absolutely nobody should be joining the US military. Its all "support our troops" until those troops are women, people of color, LGBTQ+, anti-war, anti-Zionist and/or simply not a fascist. Then you become an enemy of the state.
This and all the imperialism.
Nah, the imperialism is fine as long as it's just desert people dying. It's for a good cause after all: To secure the resources needed to wage more war.
Don't even have to be any of those. It's "support our troops" until they come home, them they're all chattel.

Poverty makes people do wild things. It's an incredible weapon wielded by the rich.
I absolutely agree that joining the military is a crazy choice, and yet, propaganda works and desperation does unfortunate things to our instincts.
I thought the custom was to fuck their wives while they're on deployment.
This. Get some taste of your own medicine. Coming to crush people around the globe, and then expecting to sit quietly on a patio in peace back home - what could be more hypocritical?
But also, the story is most importantly of abuse of power that can and does affect civilians.

Which I pointed out. The real problem is that National Guard abuses power to crush dissent, and this will absolutely affect civilians. So, I still hope they will be persecuted.
But at the same time, I came to support the statement above with my own take. I have zero compassion to military folks, especially US veterans serving abroad. They knew what they subscribe to, and yet they chose to proceed anyway. It is because of people like her that the world has seen so much pain and suffering. I hope they never find peace, and their glorification sickens me to the core.
It's actually because of the dipshits in charge. But, yeah, blame the grunts who went into the military bcz they're poor and have been subjected to a lifetime of propaganda.

Depends on the crime. Joining the military doesn't make you a bad person automatically. It's usually forced conscription, propaganda, poverty, or a combination thereof. Dunno why you're bringing it up in the context of the national guard brutalized someone for no reason.

Indeed, you were responding seemingly that it's wrong to “blame the grunts”, so I asked if you really follow that position.
I don't deny that. They go first.
Which drags on to today. Military folks are honored, and being a vet is seen as a badge of honor, not of shame. Would young folk see it differently when joining the military makes you a pariah?
Or simply become a vet
