Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

it's as though Reddit is actively encouraging it's user base and potential new users to not use the site. The search results encourage that. "here's the answer from reddit, don't worry, you don't need to go there" or "you prefer old.reddit? welp you gotta sign up for that now!" or the search field that just doesn't search the actual subreddit you're in "you want to search for a specific window manager on unixporn? nope, here's a result from a subreddit about cleaning windows"
Also watch your tongue on reddit! if you criticize ANYTHING that reddit has vested interest in you get a ban.
The site should be studied as a textbook example of enshitification
Exactly. Also the reason why they we're pushing so hard to switch to new UI is that the design of the old one made it much harder to enshitify[1].
BTW: I like Lemmy and all, but I wish Usenet could become popular again. I feel like Reddit contributed somewhat to its demise to became that replacement of it.
[1] I mean in the sense to milk profit at the cost of degrading user experience, not to just to make it bad for the sake of making it bad. You can always make things worse.

I'm pretty sure they just see themselves as an AI training database with an annoying website attached they have to keep online to make it look like they still care
That's been the modern world for the last 40 years. Durability is nothing compared to next-quarter profits, because if something starts to shit the bed you just move your money to something that hasn't been ruined yet, and then make even more money ruining it.

I dont mean to be rude but....do we want them here? I kinda think its good as is. Sure we get some people but its been nice lately.

Yeah. The Facebookification of reddit is one of the things that killed it. If you make it too easy to access and use, you get more noise than signal, like people asking the same questions over and over, or cheap jokes in the comments that drown out useful ones.
I think the people that find it here are probably decent. It's really just when money gets involved that the vultures start circling. I guess time will tell how the fediverse experiment goes

While Reddit is getting shittier by the minute, just an FYI: you can still search within a sub even if the sub tag is missing from the search bar. You need to type "subreddit:name-of-sub your-keywords", e.g. "subreddit:funny cute dog". I still use Reddit, because however shitty, there's a lot of good info on it that I can't find anywhere else (niche stuff or smaller communities). I do use a 3rd party Android client most of the times, though.
There's still a working 3rd party client? Which one(s)? I thought they killed them all off...
You can just use a browser.
I used Joey for the longest time, but didn't feel too comfortable using an app that's abandoned, so I switched to Continuum.
Textbook example of capitalism
People need to stop fucking acting like enshitification is a separate thing just because it has a catchy name.
Every example of "enahitification" is the normal and inevitable result of our economic system.
It is not some weird fringe aspect we can stop, it is what always happen with unregulated capitalism.
And the reason this is important enough to keep attempting to explain to people who blindly use buzzwords:

I've always thought of the term as a specific tactic of venture capitalism not as something separate. Maybe that's not the norm, but it's how it is used in spaces I frequent online.
monopolies are not the only end result of capitalism, they are a common end result but if the barriers to enter the market are low enough and the incumbent corps don't engage in regulatory capture it generally doesn't happen.
