theyre scared of doing their own art because they risk being ridiculed for mediocre tehnique. they vent to chatgpt because theyre afraid of being rejected in early friendships and just want someone to say they love them. they dont go to therapy because 9 dollars a month is way cheaper than 800 dollars. they use AI chatbots for sex because theyre afraid of the very real risks of sex and dont feel like they can get it with a real person. we used to vent online but now post pandemic you risk your shit being posted on a commentary channel blasted to millions of people in your most vulnerable times.

except for the first one, which is some self-awareness i can respect, those sure are massive social problems we should kill some billionaires about.

The first one is not respectable self-awareness. Being technically bad is not itself a reason not to do one's own art, and is the only way to become good.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

it depends what the goal is. I know i can't make 2d art so i just don't try to make things that need 2d art. i don't need to go on some journey of trying to get good at some skill i have no aptitude for

Setting aside a few assumptions there, consider also that art can have purpose beyond being technically sound (art is defined first by expression, not skill), and if you really want "well-made" art that badly then just pay or barter with an artist instead of using the plagiarism machine.

just pay or barter with an artist

"just"

instead of using the plagiarism machine.

or scope your project so that you can create within your means and ability.

it's not self-awareness, it's fear. which is understandable, but this is the worst way to deal with that fear

you're gonna make some crap on the way to making something you're proud of, the point is making it

Im not one of these folks who thinks therapy is gonna solve everything for everyone....WITH THAT SAID.

Its probably true that a metric fuckton of people could profit from therapy in some ways. ( I include myself in the group of people who could profit from therapy)

how is it self awareness to think that your own art is shit and take criticism so personally to the point you dont even create it at all? so much self hating is normalized as ”self awareness”

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

if you know you're bad you shouldn't try to do stuff (besides learning). prod isn't the place to test.

i have a middleschool understanding of carpentry. should i:

a) offer to do my neighbor's cabinets

b) not take on a task i'm incapable of completing with any quality in a reasonable timeframe

[–] opiumfree@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

thats on the same level at all as art? a way of self expression? please quit seeing art this way, its puritanical and gross

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

don't fucking put down joinery. that shit is hard and takes a lot of skill, and designing door inlays and shit is just as artistic as line drawing or whatever narrow definition of art you have.

[–] opiumfree@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

self expression is not the same as the allegory you had there

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 1 points 1 day ago

against my better judgement i will try again.

should one write poetry in a language they don't understand?
