You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Avoid AI generated content.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

MODERATORS

Over the past months it has become increasingly apparent that the 196 moderation team has a member who does not align with the goals and values of the rest of the team.

196 has a very clear stance on tankies and other authoritarians. No authoritarian apologia of any kind is allowed in our space. It’s not our intent to tell leftists how to be leftist, but we’re not willing to allow somebody we so fundamentally disagree with to moderate our community.

Based on this stance we’ve decided to remove Kittenzrulz from the moderation team.

Why demote Kittenzrulz123?

Kittenzrulz has consistently been opposed to the condemnation of tankies and has made several worrying statements that show that there’s a deep ideological gulf between her and 196.

Furthermore it should be noted that kittenzrulz has not taken part in moderation decisions on lemmy for months, while she is only somewhat active on the matrix (as a mod). This will not be a major change in that sense.

The following is a list of screenshots that should help to showcase what we mean.

spoiler

This one is from yesterday

Demoting Kittenzrulz123

First to be clear we’re not banning her from the lemmy community or the matrix space and she is free to continue to interact with all of us. We still want her around as we think of her as a friend who we care about and want to see happy and healthy, though we understand this decision might cause kittenz some stress.

As of this moment kittenzrulz is no longer a mod of 196. A vote was held and all mods that voted voted in favor of demoderation, with a few mods abstaining (either due to not having an opinion on this or due to being inactive).

And just to make sure everybody is on the same page, this is not a condemnation of kittenz as a person. People can disagree on things and still get along, we’re just not comfortable letting her make decisions on our behalf and want to prevent any further problems we see as a likely outcome.

Hey what woke up this account from its slumber? Surely that's natural right now.

Tbf, this is a very based list of a bunch of terrible things America has done. It's funny that someone would post this in an effort to upset the people here though. It's on the same level as people spamming cat gifs and us happily going along with it; those were good times.

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Oh yeah, I fully support shitposting about America's crimes.

It's just amazing how hard they try to pretend to be normal. BTW, you've probably be attacked by Hexbear in the last ~24 hours because of Kitten running to them. Saying 196 bullied her into leaving and what not.

I haven't been attacked directly, but I am aware that Kittenz has fled to Hexbear and of the anger on the Marxist side of Lemmy. However, I think it would be useless to escalate things any further and make this a bigger conflict.

I can only speak for myself, but if there is one thing both Kittenz and I agree upon, it's that queers and anarchists should avoid unnecessary conflict with Marxists. Liberals are hella scary right now, and I genuinely believe a red scare is on the horizon in American politics. Right now the fascists are fear mongering about us, but as their power wanes and liberals are favored by oligarchs for their stability, anti-communism is a narrative that can unite them both. This will be especially true if China takes Taiwan and dominates the chip market basically overnight; nationalism is a seductive force.

I don't believe being a pick-me could make us any safer. If liberals unite with the fascists to hunt tankies, we would only jeopardize our situation by helping them. They'll target anyone who stands against them as traitors for China, demanding we give up any battle that makes them uncomfortable. We cannot side with such reactionary nonsense.

However, avoiding conflict is not the same as compromising our principles for allies that will throw us under the bus when convenient. Just like with red baiting liberals, welcoming those who demand we ignore oppression and swear loyalty to empires will compromise our ability to advocate for ourselves.

For any MLs who find this comment, these words are only my own; I do not speak for the mod team here. For you @eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com, I personally recommend against fighting with tankies on their home terf. People who earnestly believe we favor America and tolerate chasers will not listen to you, no matter how well you argue. I'm not saying this to help the narrative, but to save you time and stress.

Thank you Jessica :)

Why do you feel the need to attack women constantly? Kitten and Alsaas seem to get vitriol from you almost every day.

You also seem to have a nasty habit of misrepresenting situations.

"Today I leave the 196 community and chat, both as a moderator and as a user. It has become overwhelmingly clear that I am no longer welcome here"

I would say that posting and pinning a mod removal announcement post before even talking to the person would make someone feel unwelcome.

"I understand and respect the decision made by the mods here; this will be my final message in this community."

As many others have noticed in this and Kittenz post there is a disagreement over politics and instead of having a discussion like Kittenz asked, the others closed ranks. Everyone involved seems to have parted on mature terms, but there is someone who they didn't ask. You, the serial harasser of women.

So yes she did go to the only instance that wants to support a kind, silly, curious, and engaging person instead of ostracizing her.

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 weeks ago

Yep. It's only women. Don't ask all the men who claim I'm the bad guy for talking about them. It's only women.

Sorry that women also do bad faith actions and need to be called out.

Hi Kitten, I'm sure you're having a good time pretending you're innocent and everyone who doesn't like you clowns is sexist. Hexbear is a better hugbox for you.
