AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

If this wasn't enough, there's even more among the silver members, such as OpenAI and NVidia.

What's the problem? All those companies have a vested interest in not letting any of those other companies from poison-pilling the kernel. I hate corporations, but they're also the ones with the money to invest in Linux instead of Microsoft Server subscriptions.

Am I missing something?

  1. People are irrational. This is especially true to tech bros.
  2. Techbros are usually true believers.
  3. They need a sales pitch. What is better than putting AI slop code into a kernel trusted by billions of people?

Re: 3: because most of those companies probably rely on Linux for their operations, while a few like Microsoft and Samsung, do have some serious conflicts of interest.

Your point would stand if any of those companies had recently shown a shred of evidence that they're capable of planning further into the future than next quarter. :(

I mean, it's a bit like not letting a cat around babies because you saw it kill a rabbit once. Corporations are safe around these projects in a way they are not with their own proprietary code.

in the case of microsoft, it's like not letting a cat around babies because you saw it scratch the baby and bite the baby and the cat said "i'm gonna eat that baby" and licks its lips and bites the baby again

Android is using the Linux kernel as its base.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

Oh, I thought it originally used it as a base, then developed independently. So the Linux kernel updates find their way to android?

Not putting slop into the kernel so their servers still run without a hitch

They clearly don't give a shit whether their servers stay up, though.

This has been a weird year where the cultists decided that don't need to keep normies around to steer their servers farms.

Tech bros think the user is responsible for slop, not the AI model.

They're just wrong lol

Linus torvalds actually wrote about this in his book just for fun. He does believe in companies contributing and that not everyone was on the same page
