They really think the industry is in the shitter and that studios are being closed and developers being laid off left and right because Gamers are boycotting video games that have too many female/gay/black characters or not enough booba and because video game studios don't employ enough white dudes. I know they're terminally stupid and wilfully ignorant but the way Microsoft's shitty hiring practices have affected Halo are well documented and they have nothing to do with developers having blue hair or pronouns on their bio

THEY WILL FIND OUT THE HARD WAY frothingfash

I have completely the opposite opinion, the problem is actually that they're not brave enough to do anything different. All they do is rehash the same formula over and over again.

The fascist human empire needs a civil war to spice things up. Then you can sell the franchise to two different audiences through stories told from two different angles, the fascist viewpoint and the liberatory viewpoint.

In addition to that, since the war with the covenant ended, various independent outposts should seek their own independence again. This was exactly why the spartan program itself was created, as a child-reared assassin program to assassinate leaders of rebellions. Those rebellions should restart as various factions tertiary to the main civil war.

You would pretty much end up with One Piece in space. Then you can do whatever you want, throw the flood into conflicts every now and then for funsies.

It's interesting that both of Microsoft's big scifi shooter franchises feature evil fashy governments that the main characters serve in that suppress dissent, mass murder civilians and do horrible human super soldier experiments and just never get overthrown or even reformed

As much as I'd like to pin the faltering of the AAA console space on a lack of creative vision, I think plenty of people are willing to slurp up the same old spectacle. Instead I think the problem is just AAA development cycles have gotten so long that a franchise can miss a console generation entirely.

I think plenty of people are willing to slurp up the same old spectacle

but would they also slurp up this other thing that advances the setting in a materialist way?

they need the covenant to attempt human extermination to make the unsc sympathetic and not have the games just be about crushing insurgents. the flood is the one component i don't understand. it could just be a borg like communist metaphor but i don't know. could it be immigrants? the poor. i know there's a huge emphasis on inherited genetic superiority in he franchise

The Halo 3 legendary edition bonus disc bestiary labels the The Flood's political system as "Utopian Socialism" lol

fuck that game

The flood is the communist enemy if you ignore the fact that communists literally exist in universe agitating the independence of stations and that's what the Spartan program was created to fight. They're very borg-like, join the collective through force, tidal wave of red, employing literal human wave tactics.
