What is global news?

Something that happened or was uncovered recently anywhere in the world. It doesn't have to have global implications. Just has to be informative in some way.

Post guidelines

Title formatPost title should mirror the news source title. If you don't like the title of article, look for an alternative source instead of editorializing it.
URL formatPost URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.
[Opinion] prefixOpinion (op-ed) articles must use [Opinion] prefix before the title. Opinion articles refer to articles that their publisher doesn't explictly endorse.
Country prefixCountry prefix can be added to the title with a separator (|, :, etc.) if the news is from a local publisher who doesn't clearly mention the country.

China has always been pursing its own policy also in the Middle East. A major point here is exactly to use Israel as a'geostrategic asset' if you want to put it that way. The Chinese government prefers to deal with and supports autocratic regimes, negates the rule of law, as it can then better undermine the country.

In Israel, the Chinese Communist Party has been supporting exactly for what its propaganda is accusing the only the West: the genocide in the West Bank and in Gaza. It's a dehumanizing and disturbing symbiosis that a Chinese firm linked to repression of Uyghurs aids Israeli surveillance in West Bank,

Cameras made by Hikvision ... blanket the occupied West Bank, according to Amnesty International ... Based in Hangzhou, China, the company is one of the world’s largest makers of video surveillance equipment. Already infamous among international human rights groups, it has been blacklisted by the US and identified by the UK as a security threat for being complicit in China’s repression of the Uyghur ethnic minority ...

The report is newly relevant in the weeks after the 7 October [2023] Hamas attacks that the Israeli government said killed 1,400 people. Since then, settlers have escalated their violence against West Bank Palestinians and the Israeli army has conducted raids in West Bank cities and refugee camps.

Hikvision has marketed facial-recognition features that would, it claimed, automatically detect Uyghur people. It has also advertised features meant to discern any person’s ethnicity, age and race based on an image of their face.

Here is the original report by Amnesty.

This is only one example. There are more similar reports regarding Chinese surveillance tech and other products and services sold to autocratic regimes worldwide to enhance 'business ties' ...
