I never think about Chicago.

Spoken like a true West Coast native.

I didn’t mean it like that! Tbf I grew up in Atlanta and am blown away nobody even mentioned it. My first thought was DC instead of Chicago.

Wait does that mean you consider Atlanta the east coast?

A lot of US cities are special for their own reasons! I love Atlanta and am well overdue for another visit. It's just hard to rank cities with any real objective criteria.

You're not wrong, but Chicago has a lot to offer, and not just for their fabulous pies and comedy incubation. It's not Cleveland, for Christ's sake.

I've been there twice, only once by choice, and I think about Seattle more than Chicago.

Hell I think about Gary Indiana more than Chicago.

I live in Chicago and I think about Gary a lot.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

No one warned you about Gary beforehand, I presume

Everybody that leaves Chicago can't stop thinking about it.

People in abusive relationships often have flashbacks

Honestly me too. I think a big part of it is cultural. With LA you have Hollywood, skate culture, and a music scene that dominated the last 3 decades or so, etc, and NYC, well, it's NYC. For a while Chicago was the center of the jazz world when jazz was the mainstream, but that was probably over a hundred years ago. I hear Chicago's nice, but that's basically all I hear, I really don't know what goes on over there these days compared to a lot of other American cities.

Chicago was also important in blues.
