Rules:
- The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
- Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
- If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
- Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. (If you're only using an excerpt from an article that's otherwise not about LAMF, you can use the quote in the title.) Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
- For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
- Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
- This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.
- All Lemmy.World Terms of Service apply.

It doesn't "ban them from a list", they're just not on the list under "Christian".
Ask any Mormon if they're just a flavor of Christian, and they'll be quick to tell you why they're better
They don't have a problem with drawing a line, they just don't like it when they're on the minority side of the line which is what this is about.
They'll call far right Christians "them" all day, but don't like being called "them" by anyone.
I thought it was the military list of protected religious rights, meansing the Mormons would have no recourse if they were asked to do something that violated their beliefs
Yes, the main thing here is they're feeling a sense of Othering that they all grew up being told was a thing that happened to Mormons, but they didn't really believe it because they were loyal republicans and the majority of them live and die in the bubble of Utah and the surrounding areas, so they're a force to be reckoned with even when not the majority. Those of us who grew up Mormon (i got better!) in the Bible Belt knew that the evangelicals would never accept Mormons as fellow Christians. More understanding groups wouldn't make a thing of it, even if they have the same theological distinctions, but the Bible thumpers were always going to insist on semantic cleansing once they had their hands on the levers of power, and if the Mormons don't accept that they're only as good as Jews and Muslims, they'll get slapped down even harder by a truly Christian Nationalist regime.
Thanks for pointing out that there's no ban on religions in the military. I've heard this blown way out of proportion a few times.
I believe this is mostly about what religious texts the military provides, clergy services and burial services. I think theres some other small things as well but it’s mostly about the military’s obligations
Since Americans famously shrank English words due to length
Christians should pay 1/3rd more taxes than Mormons
Yours, a jew
Edit: this is a joke, I am not a Jew
