I mean it is a pretty unusual name for a country to be honest

Like "Saint Vincent and the Grenadines"? When I first heard this term as a kid, I thought it was referring to a 50s or 60s music band.

Antigua and Barbuda, São Tomé and Principe, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago.

Bosnia and Herzegowina is also not an unknown country.

And let’s not forget the other country with “and” in its name:

The United Kingdom of Great Britain And Northern Ireland

Unfortunately we US Americans are not particularly strong on the subject of geography. We've all heard of Bosnia, but its last name was never mentioned when it was in the news. Most here have never heard of any of the islands you listed except for maybe Trinidad.

No, you implied a reaction like the one in the post isn't weird since countries don't often have similar names. I counter the reaction is weird because Bosnia and Herzegowina isn't an obscure or never heard of country but the reaction is quite stereotypical US-american (as in "conforms to stereotypes", not in "look, typical US-american).
