To present a different option, Singapore. Very smug and think theyre intrinsically better than their neighbors. When rly it just comes down to geography and english proficiency. I just hate that they're always trotted out as this capitalistic success story when their "success" came about under a set of very specific circumstances

No you see it's easy. Every developing country needs to control a key maritime lane and they'll finally become like Singapore.
