I feel the need to stress that this is not a us thing only. I feel that trying to be better is the inverse of useless, it's quite essential.

And we should hold our leaders to that standard.

That's nice. I'm ready to fight to win, personally.

Fight dirty. Pack every court, add seats, gerrymander the life out of every county and up, abuse every rule and gentleman's agreement. It all ends when those things become enshrined in law. No more wringing hands and strongly worded letters. Sometimes the bully just needs a bitch slap to make the trip back to reality.
