I don't think brooks herring exist. They're a saltwater fish.

But also: Herring isnt a specific fish. It's a type of fish. Although like 99% of herring are atlantic herring which are a saltwater fish, there are anadromous varieties such as river herring and lake herring (Although one of those is technically a salmon i think). I also think there's some totally freshwater varieties but I dont wanna look it up.

Given that the vast vast majority of herring are just the Atlantic herring, and most other herring are saltwater fish you're correct in all the ways that matter
